I live in metro NY and have to wonder where you are planning on keeping your RV during the winter. NYC with the boroughs is extremely RV unfriendly. You mention looking for dump sites but you have not said where the RV will be. Lots of luck if you plan to park on the streets. It is not going to be permitted. And your plumbing will freeze in NY cold unless fully winterized which means no water at all unless you have an RV that is fully protected from cold with heaters on the plumbing - inside and out which means you have to be hooked up to shore power and this only will happen in a campground. Liberty Harbor is the most convenient to NYC to stay in and hook up and get you into the Manhattan, Queens, or Brooklyn regardless of the weather. But still if your tanks are exposed, any plumbing is exposed and not heated they will freeze. Even with full winterizing last winter we had problems with our RVs plumbing in the Spring. Being new to RVing, the winter in NY is not a good time to start.
