Drinking fluids is good - those kidney stones hurt like ....
Knowing when it's not convenient to drink a lot of fluids is priceless.
I limit my fluid intake about 30 minutes before I leave and while I'm driving. That ensures that I'm not having to pee every 10 - 30 minutes. As long as I'm sitting in the driver's seat, I can stretch it out. However, it's what happens when you stand and move that matters - sit it out too long and when you finally get up, Hoover Dam is bursting and there's no time to delay. I find 3 hours is a good stretch. I can do up to 4 hours if needed, but anything after that and I'm hitting the Dam.
Pulling over annoys me - I just want to get where I'm going. Pulling over is like the airport, I'm in limbo, not on my way and not there yet. I don't like it. But, as others say, a few minutes every 3-4 hours isn't going to kill us and it will eliminate (pun intended) a lot of accidents.
Save your drinks for your destination. Chew gum, snack on starbursts, tic tacs, lifesavers, etc. - things that will keep the saliva production up but won't fill the kidneys.
