someone else hit the nail on the head, I have a propensity to get kidney stones, so I'm programmed to drink a LOT of fluid to keep things moving.
If I don't drink a lot, I don't need to go. I suppose the answer was clear. I just don't like the idea of intentionally under hydrating.
I suppose I'll figure out what works
That was me - I TOTALLY understand!!!!!! It's not so much under-hydrating, it's just timing the hydration. When I'm at home or sitting in the RV, no problem, I drink as much as I can. When I'm at work, I have to coordinate how much I drink with what I'm doing. If I have to attend a meeting, then I drink less water before and more after. When I'm going to be driving, I drink less water before and during and more after. As long as you get the full amount throughout the day, you're OK - you don't have to drink 2 sips every 5 minutes all day long. Sometimes, I drink 52 ounces (gotta love the Bubba Mugs) before noon. Other times, I don't get through those 52 ounces until 4 p.m. But I pretty much always get the full 64 ounces or more without much effort or guzzling.
With practice, you'll figure out how much you can drink in how much time without needing to pee right after. Then you can adjust your drinking to be more convenient for breaks - so instead of drinking one bottle every hour, drink one every two hours on the road and then drink more when you get to your destination.
