Use a GPS with an RV map option, it will route you around known obstacles like low bridges, too-tight roads, etc.

While we use a GPS, we never trust them completely. We check each route with a truckers road atlas. The atlas shows low overpasses and bridges with weight limits. You can also get this information online.

We plan our fuel stops by looking at any questionable places with Google earth. We do the same with the RV parks and will often call them to ask about access. We read the reviews on rvreviews.com to see if there is anything we should knnow about the park.

Yes, we plan but it gives us peace of mind.

if it looks low? STOP and double check.

You're in CT, so stay off any road that ends in the word PARKWAY (like Merrit Parkway) and that goes for any state

Truckers Atlas never fails. Yes, GPS is great but it can also mess you up. It's done a few horrible things to me. I actually use my phone/google maps most of the time.

I double tow so mistakes are out of the question. I pre plan by looking at Earth/street view and reading reviews. Even some places like Walmart can be a problem because they may have set them up with a tight small island like pattern. They are not intended for large vehicles.

Measure the height of the RV. Then pay attention to the height markings on overpasses. Add at least 6 inches as a safety measure.

You will almost always see signs well in advance advising of any low overpasses.
