Ok rv shrinker, sorry for the tongue in cheek response.
With more info I/we understand more of what you're looking for.
TC is great, but you're not in favor of buying a HD pickup to haul it. Understandable, but if you go that direction, it would be great for the kids to sleep in when the parents are staying with you. Kids love to "camp." Mine beg to sleep in the camper sometimes. Then as suggested, ailing parents can be in the house. Helps if kids have a full or queen size bed.
IMO another downside to a TC is storage, on and off with a cover or need a 12' door to park inside. Big concerns protecting most RVs from the rain here while stored.
You could get a well built TT for off road use , or most any newer one would last a while. Not sure what brand to reccomend.
For better off-roading, easy waterproof storage by many methods, suitable for part time use, how about a nice pop up camper? Easy to tow, big ones are still light and can get decent water capacity and a full bath. Again kids can camp there while the 'rents are in town. Downside is they suck for winter or cold camping and not as nice of amenities usually as a TT or TC.
Good luck in your search and the pnw is like camper central so tons of choices new and used.
