We have used Delorme for years. We tried Streets and Trips and liked Delorme better especially with its voice recognition control. Both of these can be purchased with a USB GPS receiver that sits on the dash to get the GPS signal. The Delorme package with the receiver can be found for less than $50. You can use the same receiver with any software. It is safest to have the passenger tend to the laptop while driving but you can rig up a holder for it. The best part with Delorme is that you never have to look at the screen, just say what is the next turn at any time and it will speak it to you and tell you when it will be. Of couse, that is also shown on the screen as you travel. Delorme has had features for years that the top stand alone gps units still don't have.
