Go up Maine along the coast and visit Acadia National Park and then spend a few days up at Moosehead Lake. It's gorgeous country and will give you a feel if RVing is your interest.
If you're planning on Yellowstone, book now. Fishing Bridge CG fills up fast as do the ones on the outskirts. FYI, expect lots of driving and waiting in the park. Bring lots of things to keep the kids busy. They tend to bore easily if they're young.
It is our absolute favorite place to visit. Positively breath taking, but better left when the kids can appreciate it.
Another suggestion: Sequoia NP and Kings Canyon. The kids WILL be impressed, but lots of walking.
