I would second that idea. Being also from the east coast, I would say that is good trip for a family w/young kids. It's where we headed for our first big camping adventure when our kids where roughly 5 / 7. Within reasonable driving distance and plenty to see and do that was fun for all....save all that airfare and extra money and put it into buying the RV the whole family will enjoy, IMO.
