I just had another thought after reading all these posts. If you are flying to Yellowstone and renting an RV there, I hope you have a deep wallet. For the RV you will need blankets, sheets, or sleeping bags, dishes, pots, and pans, dinner ware, toilet paper, dish soap, your personal hygiene items, even your tooth brushes, clothing, and entertainment for the kids, and this just the START, basic bare bones items you'll need.
Now .... how much of that can you haul on an airplane? You will either need to rent the pots and pans and sheets and blankets (some RV rentals have this option, but costs a hefty price) or buy all this and then have to figure out how to dispose of it all when you fly back home. Then you still have your food and personal hygiene items you'll have to purchase once you are there. I've never heard of being able to rent tooth paste and a tooth brush. :)
If you take a vacation closer to home and rent an RV, everything can be supplied from your home and return to your home when you return. Where you live, you are in a great location for a zillion options without having to drive more than a day. And yes, I agree with the above poster, if you stay at a campground that has water, a swimming pool, a lake, a river, for swimming, canoeing or kayaking, or even inner-tubing, the kids REALLY won't care about seeing animals!
It's just something you REALLY need to consider. RV rentals do NOT come equipped with anything. You get them completely empty. You have to supply your own camping equipment or rent it from them (if that's available).
