I think you would like the RV route. Even though hotels allow the dogs you cannot leave them in the room unattended. Many of the National and State parks do not allow you to take the dogs on any of the trails and you do not want to leave them in the car. With the RV, we can leave them there and know they are happy and comfortable.
I like my own bed and I like being able to eat as many meals as I want in the RV. You can camp where there are no hotels.
I would try and Class C and Class A choices before you decide. You will want to pull a small car behind you. Even though the Class Cs are smaller, it is a pain to hook and unhook each day as you go and see the sights, or just go out to dinner.
