Payload payload payload for RVing. Performance/acceleration between the top engines/trans/gears for all the half tons is going to be similar when towing. So will will fuel economy, at least to the degree that you are buying a $40k vehicle.
For 2014 models, GM offers the most typically equipped dealer lot payload, 1750 pounds for a mid trim 4x4 crew cab pickup. Ford/Nissan are next at about 1450 pounds. Tundra is 1300 pounds and Ram 1200. If you want higher trim level and more features, they can all drop by 250 pounds or more. As you shop/kick the tires at your local dealers, note this sticker on a truck equipped per your liking. See what each has where mine says 2051:
