As a retired Army nurse, we didn't have to worry about state licensure when working on a "federal island." (My Texas license was good as long as I was on active duty and assigned to an Army facility - no matter where it was.) As a civilian, you will have to obtain a license for each state in which you work. There are several nation-wide traveling nurse companies that help with the licensure in each state and also obtain contracts and assignments for you.
