Newish to rving

Hello, I know iv already made a post but I was trying to get some last minute things fixed before our first camping trip. The trip went well it was a much needed vacation and it was a fun adventure just me and my wife. I have already went around the whole thing and sealed all the windows, doors, holes, roof etc, replaced the rubber propane lines and redid the trailer plug wiring (it was a mess) the camper is a 19ft kit companion model 227.

Even though our trip went pretty smoothly it did give us an idea of what our camper needs and what we want to change:

1. The fridge does not work it’s sitting in my garage right now the freezer is cooling to a nice and chilly 65 degrees and the fridge is 75 degrees. It’s about 85 degrees outside and probably 75 or so in my garage. Obviously this is not kosher. Iv tried rotating the fridge on it head several times, iv tried tapping on the pipes with a hammer a few times, iv tried wiring the element directly to power, and the only thing that’s changed is that the freezer actually got warmer it when I started it would reach 35 but that was only once. My dad thinks I should let a technician look at it. I’m not claiming to know everything but iv spent hours and hours on the dang thing and I’m sure it needs a cooling unit.

2. The floor just in front of the doorway has a spot about 2ft long that is soft. I would like to cut it out and put a patch in it. I am very mechanically inclined in the way of autobody and general automotive but not much in home structure type stuff. I think I should be able to cut out the section that’s soft reinforce it as needed and section in a new piece of subfloor?

Is this a kosher deal? And if it is then what would be the best way to recover it? It currently has white lenolium and the soft spot goes to the edge of the kitchen counter where the lenolium Ts and goes to the bedroom. What would be a good way to section in a new piece or lenolium/laminate/rubber mat material/ etc where I spliced it in? I like the idea of using a garage floor coating or Bedliner, or rubber material but I don’t like the idea of having a transition right there? Ideas? Examples?

3. It has had leaks in the front but does not appear to have mild growing anywhere, I took a ceiling speaker out and pushed a borescope up through there and had a look. You can tell it’s been wet but it does not look rotten or currently wet. I want to pull the damaged panels down and replace with some Luan board. Where it’s only the front I don’t want it to stick out real bad when we are done what are some ways to blend that in?

Thanks for any help you guys can offer. Iv done a lot of camping in my life but this is the first time I’ve owned a camper we got it free from my dad so we figure we have some room to spend a little money on it. It won’t be going cross country or anything like that. Mostly hunting fishing, camping that sort of thing so we’re not looking for super nice. If you can help with any of these things please let me know! Thanks
  • I am only going to speak on the refrigerator issue.

In my previous 5th wheel the refrigerator started to lose the ability to cool. I found yellow powder like substance when I looked at the back which indicated a leak.

I ordered just a cooling unit replacement and put it in. The hardest part was getting the old unit off of the refrigerator. This is something that you could do yourself with basic tools and aptitude in a weekend.

I ordered my unit from RV Cooling Warehouse.

    Good luck and happy camping.
