Nitrogen tires

I have been on a couple short track race car pit crews and we always used Nitrogen in the tires. This was mainly because it expands less due to heat so we got more consistent tire pressures from the start of the race to the end.

That being said, I know I dont worry too much about pressure fluctuation in my TTs tires. If they where to get as hot as the race car tires, the gas in them would be the least of my concern. TT tires dont even come close to the heat or side loading that the race car tires endured.

How does this BS survive year after year??

Many aircraft tires use nitrogen, but they also use special rims with 2 valves. When first filling with N the second valve is used to purge the tire of air.

A friend who owns a tire shop tells me that using Nitrogen in road vehicle tires is an excellent way for him to improve his bottom line.

I just ad air as nitrogen is too hard to find & them usually charge extra....

On the lighter side our car dealer made us buy nitro fill LOL was supposed to get us better mileage & the tires were supposed to last longer (Did it while the car was under the warranty ....... Well we got 32K out of the nitrogen filled tires & so far 52 K out of the air filled tires same gas mileage...........

Personally I feel it is more of a gimmick...... unless it is in extreme conditions (200MPH etc.)

I bought new tires for the truck, they filled them with their nitrogen,(free) I do notice that the pressure does not fluctuate with temperature like the 78% does. Does it make a practical difference? Not that I can tell. Would I pay for it? Hell No!

Just remember 78% of the air we breath is Nitrogen!

I race karts, and some of the top competitors use nitrogen or dry air to maintain tire pressures over a race distance, but most of us just use regular air.. I see the reason, but I'm not consistent enough to be affected by the difference of a pound of pressure change.

I can't imagine that it would make much of a difference in the 'handling' of a trailer. :)

The government should ban the use of air and require N2

I have been using the 78% blend for years with good success. Just be sure to switch from winter to summer mix

Because it's dry and has a predictable build-up.
