To visit Salem, where have you looked? I would not be caught staying at the campground in Salem, but that is me. Look at Littleton MA, Salisbury or Gloucester. You would then have a 30-45 minute drive but that is what we do in Mass. Where are you staying in Maine? It is a holiday weekend here so things do tend to fill up, plus the foliage. After this weekend, many campgrounds start to close.
