No campground spots available, what to do?

So my better half had a trip she wanted to take but didn't quite get to making any reservations until a week before. Of course almost every park is full at the stops she wants to make. What do most of you guys do when this happens? This will only be our 2nd major trip in our new RV so we are still rookies.

  • If your dog is well behaved (no barking), he can stay in the motor home. For us and the dog, the motor home is as much home as our sticks and bricks. That is one reason we love the RV - we can take the dog with us.

As far as no campsite, I would check with RV Park Reviews if you have not done so to make sure you have not missed a park. There are also web sites for free places to park - maybe someone can help with the web addresses.
  • We will never kennel our dogs. We have taken them with us for our other trips that weren't such long distances. I don't see the point in having pet friendly parks if everyone says to kennel your pets. On previous beach trips we have been able to leave them behind in our RV with no problems for short periods of time.
  • Heading up to Maine, but wanted to make stops in Salem Mass and Rhode Island. We were able to get a resv in Maine finally, but the other stops are a NoGo. Nothing within even 45 min from those other stops.

Also what does everyone do with any pets if you may want to tour a town but leave an animal behind? We will have our Jeep in tow and wanted to see some towns, but maybe not take my 200+lb Mastiff with us.
