on the road tv reception

A wine guard antenna was installed on a motorhome. We use our Direct tv cable box to receive our cable service for North Carolina. When we cross different states line , we do not receive the current state news & weather. Direct tv company advised to give them an address of the area I am in to receive that state news. If I am traveling through several states and need the current news & weather --what can I do receive this on my satellite/ direct tv box. Need help.

We have good service on the East side of the US just using the NATL BROADCAST TV from the local towns where we stay at. They are all in full blown high def mode and of course FREE TO THE PUBLIC...

Also our local towns here at home all have APPs for smart phones or tablets. Can always get the local home town weather and news from that... Being a police/fire/rescue squad radio scanner guy we can also pick up all the local home town police scanner info LIVE AUDIO from RadioReference.com for locations all over the USA using the internet. Your cellphone has an APP for that as well called RADIO SCANNER...

  • I was told once a way to get around this is to tell them you are a full timer and register the RV as the base station then you will get east and west cost feeds. Then uses your home address as the billing address. Then when home just take the unit inside....
  • During my search of on the road tv reception, i saw in camping world, Dish tv satellite box,pay for the box and pay as you go tv. You only pay what time you are on the road watching TV ( 3 months or 5 months or a year). But the different channels packages are involved in the cost also. But Dish & Direct are the same of reception only west or east coast channels. Dish is cheaper in cost than Direct, Direct-- you are under a 2 year contract. Dish has no contract agreement.

The easiest way is to use the OTA antenna, Modern DirecTV receivers will receive Over the Air as well.. You will have to read your fine manual to figure out how (I can do it hands on but I can't do it long distance and don't have one to do it with here).

It usually takes many calls to Directv to find someone who knows from a hole in the ground as it were.
