I have a Onan HGJAB 5.5KW Series A Gen set. Specific parts were ordered by Advanced Generator Service in Azusa CA direct from ONAN. The parts are the stator, rotor, end bell and brush assembly.
So far eight sets have been ordered and delivered. At least three of the sets were damaged beyond use. The shop owner said, "destroyed" about the last set.
Specific problem is that when the four parts are assembled the brushes do not sit properly on the slip rings. The brushes are riding partly on the slip rings and partly on the plastic collar that holds the slip rings.
It seems that when the third set arrived from Onan back in December of 2017, they were installed and the tech didn't check the brushes and slip rings for proper alignment. The repairs lasted about four hours.
Onan customer service replied to my call about the parts not lining up properly and promised that they would check the assemblies for compliance to specifications on May 3, CS assured both myself and Advanced Generator Service they would safely package them. So far the parts have not been delivered.
