One Question About Fresh Water Flush

I understand the process of flushing the freshwater system with some bleach Then flushing the bleach water with freshwater. My question is that if the trailer sits for two weeks between uses the water that's in the lines is going to become stale again. Do I just fill my freshwater tank open my sinks and showers and let the old water run out and then assume that the freshwater is going to be odor free after that?
  • Being a conservative I sanitize 3 to 4 times a year. We do drink the water.
  • IF you normal water source has a high iron/sulfur content then the water can get smelly

In that case you might want to drain fresh water tank, water heater and hot/cold lines (low point drains) between trips..
Easy to do.....and less involved then having to sanitize or do several rinse/flushes to get rid of smell so you can use trailer.

    Just drain it....

Thought NE had some of the BEST water in nation :H
  • We don't drink the fresh water either but have had times when it got such a rotten smell it stunk up the trailer whenever we used it. Trying to avoid that.
  • We rarely if ever flush our fresh water system....we use tank water to flush the toilet, shower, and do a few dishes....we drink bottled water and brush our teeth with it....(drink water is about $1.25 per gallon).

We try to keep all the prep and clean up, loading and unloading and all the other gazillion things to a minimum. It makes going camping easier and more relaxing.
30 years of doing this and we have never gotten sick.
  • I have never bothered to flush the water out between trips, and we do drink the water. Never noticed a bad taste or bad smell.
  • I do not sanitize between trips.
I sanitize in the spring and call it good.
I use my well water from house for initial outing in spring. When on the road I normally get city water that in theory is chlorinated enough to treat system.
