I get so tired of hearing everyone tell people that if they buy an old motorhome they are doomed.I bought a 27 year old motorhome with 7000 miles on it,did some routine maintnence on it did some modifications to make it what I wanted. 8000 miles later no major problems. Buying an older motorhome requires you to ask yourself a question (be honest with yourself)" Can I figure out and repair the thing that may come up?"
Sort of like posts like yours that don't fit the actual question/scenario being discussed. This gent is wanting something to get and immediately go on an extended around the U.S. road trip, do it on the cheap and then sell it within a year. No time for the type of maintenance let alone modifications you are talking about. You experience and points are just IMO not germane to this specific topic.

IMO, a slight rant against the doom & gloom naysayers is very germane to this thread! I have had 3 Class A motorhomes, and one Class C. None were less than 5 years old when I got them. In fact, most qualified for PERMANENT registration (11 years old or older)! Oh, yes, we learned things; such as the first A had a terrible floor plan and plugged radiator fins. The C had a 460 engine which I did not like. The second A had a great floor plan, but a 454 which left a lot to be desired, IMO. Our current coach (see sig) is simply GREAT! In fact, we took a trip to Chatanooga last year, towing the PT Cruiser on a dolly, with absolutely NO problems (other than the wind in south Dakota!)
I, too, get rather tired of the doom and gloom naysayers.
As for time to check things out, one thing nobody mentioned is the time to get the title back from the DMV. If the OP plans to sell the rig at the end of his trip, he MUST have the title in hand, or nobody will buy it! It could take up to 6 weeks (sometimes more) to get the title back. That should be plenty of time to get every thing done that needs to be done!
