walmart has a fairly reasonable 12 gauge cord. not in the RV area. if the OPs statement" On the outside of my trailer it has a plug that looks exactly like you would plug into your house 110 outlets w/o ground" it is not the standard 30 amp type hookup. I question the w/o however. only two flat connectors?

Many on the forum haven't been RVing long enough to remember when trailers only had a 15 amp service connection. I don't know what the OP's 1995 has but I have owned older trailers that were only 15 amp.
It seems like a 1995 would more likely be 30 amp but a picture of the OP's trailer would answer all the questions.
Of course there is no way of knowing what previous owners may have done to it in the last 20 years since new.
