After you have been full timing for a while you inevitably end up at your favorite place for the winter year after year.
We don't drive each and every day 365 days a year! We usually sit a spell especially during the winter months because 3/4 of the USA is under snow! So no site seeing in a MH thru those months! :B:W
I sold my house and bought a 'used' MH for cash. No payments. I stayed on the road for 6 years with no home base. I found my self in Florida every winter.
Soooo for me, when the economy crashed and the banks were practically giving homes away I bought a home for cash in Florida. So I am payment free and loving it.
I save on using my retirement funds for the outrageous CG fees during those months and can still drive any place I want and/or just kick back, relax and enjoy the weather without a MH one foot from my lawn chair!
To the OP:
One BIG thing to keep in mind if you decide to look for a vacation home is....."property that will ALLOW you to have your MH".
It took me over a year to find a house in an area that allowed parking of an RV. They were hard to come by even during the plethora of homes for sale during the recession.
So if one of your requirements is RV parking allowed on your property I'd look first before you sell your home base. Upscale along the coast you'd be hard pressed to find a residential area that will allow the RV.
And trust me buy used. Those new MH's loose so much value it truly is not a good investment to buy new and IMHO certainly not worth the exorbitant prices they demand. I buy them right and when I find a newer one at a good deal I sell and buy that one. I'm never upside down, travel in style and never have payments.:C

We like the fact we have the room and setup to park rv in our driveway and a great home base. We like the fact we can go at will on the highway and see new things. Vacation home, same place same view. up keep , not sure.
