We've owned our Upstate NY Adirondack lakeside cottage since the 60's, and when we sold our large house shortly before retirement, we knew we would be keeping the cottage, even though we wanted to spend the majority of our time in our RV. Our annual costs for the cottage are only about $2k, and it does have a full hookup site for when we're there with the coach. Most of the time, we don't even move into the cottage unless we're doing some repairs or upgrades to the coach that are easier done without us living in it. Our kids live nearby, and it's a convenient location for us to catch up on doctor's visits and such while we're there for the holidays. Right after the first of the year though, we'll be on our way south for several months. We can only take so much of the cold weather! We think it's the best of both worlds for us, and when the day comes that we have to get off the road, we have a ready made "nest" to settle into.
