I would like to know if a passport America membership is a good thing to have ? will be traveling for 2 or 3 mounths

Go to their website and see what campgrounds are along your expected route. If you can use the discount 3 times you will have your membership plus some back already. Cost is $44.00 year and like 1,800 campgrounds. Each can place their own limitations on dates of stay and/or length of stay so read the write up to see if they will work for you. You do not need to be a member to check out the campgrounds online.
