The 5450 trailer is a go IMO despite the naysayers. You don't need a new truck. Get a good hitch with integrated sway control and stop worrying. Don't worry about the elevation either. I have been over a half dozen 10K plus passes with the same engine as you have hauling a much heavier trailer. Sometimes I was limited to 2nd gear and 45 mph, but so what I always got to where I was going. There is so much doom and gloom on this forum on what you can or can't pull that it sometimes get nauseating. Your trailer choice is right in line with the specs of your truck.
Great to hear! Almost every forum post I read through is full of a lot of negative energy and I honestly started to feel that even a Hybrid would be too much weight. Great to hear a comment on the other side of the fence. I realize that towing a trailer is a serious matter (thus all my research), my families lives and the our property is in the hands of doing things the "right way". However, the thing that is unclear to me is just how bad it is to be over a weight by 50-100lbs?
If I had to get a new TV I think I would just bag the whole experience for now. I have done a lot of research though and I think I can get a big capacity trailer, that doesn't weigh a lot. My wife and I seriously looked into Hybrids for the first time last night to see if any had a ceiling above 78". After hours of study I finally found some!!! Looks like Forest River changed to an 80" roof in 2013 so the Rockwood Roo or Shamrock 233S will work for us. I went and toured one this morning and was actually VERY impressed with the craftsmanship and quality of the product, it was beautiful. Not sure what we will do yet though.
