There are lots of people pulling well above the marketing specification, often with better results than people pulling within their specifications (me in that number with one combination I use). For moderate sized trailers and smaller vehicles that is all these numbers are, marketing not engineering.
Sometimes it makes a lot of sense, sometimes not. Look at the situation, oh and there is a huge difference in the towablity of a trailer beyond just weight or length. To make blanket statements that he needs a new vehicle when his needs are not even understood yet nor the capability of the vehicle understood is very rightly termed 'negative energy' from what I can see.
