Our first one was used, paid with cash. That way, we avoided the depreciation hit, but more importantly, being our first, it allowed us to get some real-life experience with what size and features were really important to us before committing for the long term. As it turned out, our second was also used, also for cash, but would have bought new if we hadn't found a size, floor plan, and feature set that we really liked. We're the type that buys higher-end quality units and I don't mind doing a lot of the maintenance and repairs myself. We're the same way with our cars and tow vehicles, and tend to hold onto them for a long time.
