Potentially Moronic Question

Hello!

I am continuing to worry/work through/plan a cross country trip with my boys for summer 2015. I'm still in the beginning planning stages and am a super-newbie. I've never camped before.

I was looking online at the Trailmanor and Camplite models and talking to my husband about them. I was saying it would be convenient to be able to unhook our vehicle and go exploring vs having to take a Class C with us.

Then he asked me "How are you going to keep the camper from being stolen?"

I looked at him and told him they just aren't but honestly the thought had never occurred to me. I'm sure there is some amazingly obvious answer to this, but what keeps someone from just hitching your trailer up to their vehicle and leaving the campground?

Ask him how does he keep his car from getting stolen. The obvious answer is hitch locks. Not so obvious is the fact that most campgrounds require guests to check in at the gate and state what site they are going to or who they are there to visit. Vehicles that are camping there must show a pass (usually hung from the rear-view mirror) to get in. While many complain about how much having guest sometimes costs, it's actually a built-in safety net to avoid what your husband expressed concern over. Whether it's a TT, 5th wheel, Class A, B, or C a professional is going to get it if he wants it, but most likely it will be from a parking lot or your own driveway, not a campground.
  • There are hitch locks that will stop all but the professional thieves. But considering that there are some 30 million RVers out there (guesstimate) what are the odds that a thief will choose your rig to steal?
But if DH doesn't want to buy a TT then no logic will prevail.
