I also assume buyers frequently get up on ladders and personally inspect the roof as best they can.
That may be a poor assumption on your part as no dealer is going to allow anyone who doesn't work at the dealership do anything that may contravene terms of the company's insurance policy and make the dealership libel for any injuries that may potentially result from such activity. As an example, my own local dealer sells trailer covers and of course anyone who buys one can install it themselves but not on the property ... anyone who buys a cover but also stores their trailer at the dealership can't do the installation themselves but must agree to have an employee install (and later remove) the cover. RV dealerships for the most part are private family operated businesses and as such can insist on whatever business practices they deem necessary ... so while yours may be foolish enough to allow you to climb up on the roof for inspection I wouldn't assume this to be necessarily so.
Of course you should have a reasonable expectation that everything works properly when buying a used trailer and that's what any 30 day dealer guarantee is for - to cover any issues that may have been overlooked or come up in the first few weeks of ownership - otherwise, a used trailer is sold "as is", just as it would be by a private seller. Don't kid yourself - you're buying used because you think you can "save" some $$$$ but the reality is nothing in life is free so you will be paying a cost in one form or another - in this case the possibility that something will be wrong that will cost you later to repair. For those for whom that's not acceptable then the choice is to buy new and hope the factory warranty they're paying for within the cost of the unit will cover any eventualities.
