Generally, they aren't tracking potential residents. Doubly so if you are low income (that means you pay negligible taxes and may collect significant benefits). But leaving for a couple days and coming back, doesn't help if they do decide to question it. Generally, it would be based on the total time spent in the state.
If you need the income and don't have alternative means of generating income (such as remote work), work camping is viable but we've contemplated it a few times and the pay was typically not good (as in less than minimum wage) and we are not interested in cleaning bathrooms. I'd look into finding a campground with jobs nearby. 20hr/wk at $20/hr will be around $1600-1800/month. You can find a lot of clean comfortable campgrounds for $600-1000/month. If you can find a campground near an Amazon warehouse, season work around Christmas, they are always looking for workers.
