Question on determining campsite size?

The bigger the rig you have, the more accurate the info you need to give them and even that is not always enough. I always give my overall size (48') and have still had some CG's try to put me in a 30' site. Then it is really funny when they actually stop and look, then you hear,"dang that is a long one" I definitely do not want to get to the CG and find out then that they actually do not have a space to accomodate the newer longer units, I make sure during the reservation stage now that they actually understand the 48' part.

We always give a total length and then a foot or two. It also depends on the park. If it's a campground with smaller sites like a national park, then I often have to keep it to its true length or can go a little shorter since I have about 10' of overhang in the back and as long as there is nothing behind the site stopping me from backing the wheels all the way to the edge of the parkign pad. But if I have an rv that is 30' long, I don't want to tell them 30'. Becuase they may stick me on a site that is only 30' long. Last thing I want is trucks and motorhomes driving just a foot or so from the front of my RV. Now I don't tell them I need 50' if I need 30'. But I wouldn't hesitate asking for 35'. I don't know what the person is thinking or what they will do. And will pretty much suck if I get squeezed in on a site.

Give them what is in the model #. Have not found a 30' site yet that my 34/<36'LOA has not been able to fit in.

If the back hangs past the official site, no big deal. There is almost always another 5' plus before there is a tree or something back there.

Stabilizers? We don't need no stinking stabilizers.

Total length to get the best site. My buddy uses the number on his trailer which is 2 feet shorter than his box and he always wonders why he barely fits into his sites.

I always give the total length of the TT with the hitch.

I just booked this weekend. When making reservations online, 33' was not available. 29' was. I called and asked them. The lady asked how long my trailer was, I told her it was 33' overall but classified 28'. She asked a guy (assuming her husband) and he said to go by the number on the camper (28' in my case). I booked it and I am hoping there will be no issues. It's a 30amp pull through at a KOA. I have a hard time believing it wouldn't fit my rig.

Like others have said, I also go total length and add 2ft to leave room to park the TV. However have had to park sideways at my site a few times.

I always round up...2 or 3 feet even. Better too much site than not enough!

Ha ha, I have a 40' 5th wheel, and when I called one state park, I told them I had a 40' and the lady said "well we have a maximum length of 35', did you day your rig was 35' long?". And I said, "Yes maam, it's 35'". And we didn't have any issues. Just say'in.

Ball to bumper...as that IS the length of your camper!
