We always lay out an outdoor carpet, so that may help. We boondock a lot and never track in rocks, dirt, but not rocks.
We have dogs. We take an anchor with a rotating clip on top and have two long vinyl coated metal cable tethers, a thick one for our Lab and a thin one for the rat terrier. Seems to work well because they have room to move and wander. As for the lead anchor that looks like this, if we are at an RV park, I check with the office to see if it's ok to use and where to place it so as to not damage a sprinkler line.
There are many different styles of anchors so you can pick what works best for you.
