I think what you are referring to is the Trailer life/woodalls combined book now called the Good Sam RV Travel Guide and Campground Directory. The ratings are not necessarily a good indication of whether or not you are going to like the park. The scores are based on completeness of facilities. Little leeway is given for quality of those facilities and whether or not those facilities are necessary for the park to operate successfully. Things like playgrounds, pools, gamerooms etc. will up the first of the three scores, but they really don't matter to many travelers. The second set of numbers is the restrooms. A good score often means a clean park, but there is nothing to say a park couldn't be a dump except for the toilets. And many RVers don't use the park's restrooms and showers, so they do not care. The third set is things like site size, roads, landscaping etc. Again, maybe important, maybe not. A very nice scenic park can have some pretty bad roads and still be a great place to stay, while a good road doesn't necessarily translate into a place you automatically want to stay. I mean I bet some prisons have nice roads.
RVparkreviews.com, is the opposite. It is people's opinions. Most people take out the highs and lows, read a little between the lines and get a pretty good idea of what a park is like. Regardless, no matter how much science and research you put into selecting a park, there is always an element of chance. It is actually one of the fun things about RVing. You find gems and the occasional turd. Just laugh of the bad and savor the good. You are still on vacation, it sure beats working.
