Too many variables here and guesses to what the OP is trying to do. Most of the posts have only touched segments of the entire issue.
ASSUMPTION: Needs the extension cord to plug in at home?
Then they need to consider the CB of the branch circuit (15 or 20a). The wire gauge to the receptacle. The loads of anything else on the circuit. The receptacle (15 or 20a). Now we can talk about the extension cord (gauge, length and ends).
