I take so many short trips in my TT that I end up using hard-sided gel ice packs, which even if the fridge is functioning like an icebox (i.e. off), it does the job.
With the motorhome I'm looking at, I probably will continue to use the gel ice pack method, but put the fridge to 12 volts, or if running the generator while going down the road, 120 volts for full cooling.
