we usually travel on backroads and find that in small towns the local bar/grill, church, fairgrounds etc. often are available for free overnighting. We stop in and ask, and have always been welcomed. Much nicer than walmart, flying J etc. But again, these places are FAR from any walmart.
And we have had very good meals, nice conversations, great people in small towns.
Casino's are the other option we have used. Not that we use the casino, but often they have extremely nice camping areas for very low prices, or free.
