Hello... I'm about to purchase a 5er in Texas and I live in Vegas. I'm to receive paperwork by Friday to review and sign if I agree to what's documented. I was told today that with NV, registration plus sales tax will cost me another $1985. I plan on having the 5er delivered in Vegas. If I take delivery in Utah, will any of this change (registration and tax)? Any recommendation? I will check NV DMV but I thought I'd ask if anyone here can perhaps give me some tips or advice on how I can lessen this additional cost. Thanks in advance.

Whats the matter with you? Don't you know those kinds of manuevers&privliges are only for millionaires & billionaires to send their money offshore & foreign bank accounts?Government needs money-we should be proud that we are keeping this country running.

Tax and registration is due in the state in which you live.If you pick up in another state you will still have to pay tax and registration in your state.

Have the dealer give you all the paperwork and let them deliver to Nevada. Don't pay Texas sales tax. Most states have a 10 day type of one way permit to allow for the coach to be moved without paying their taxes for out of state customers. Then pay in Nevada. Been there, done that many times with motorcycles. It keeps you from paying twice the taxes.

Remember the expression, Two things you can never escape: Taxes and Death! If you try to be creative and avoid paying the tax in your state of residence, you'll just end up paying more at the end. So, save yourself frustration and just pay for delivery where you live and be done with it. Simple, easy and Uncle Sam won't be coming after you later. You can't win with tax. Just do it and enjoy the camper! RVing has it's own set of unique stresses. Why add more?

The RV place I'm buying 5er from said that they haven't seen such high $ especially compared to Texas and he mentioned $300. He thought perhaps there was a mistake. They called NV and confirmed. They also suggested I double check just in case something is not right. No one is trying to avoid taxes or do anything illegal.

$300 might have been for the title and registration only. Texas sales tax is about 6.25%. If you live in Texas, you would pay the tax on the value (less any trade in), plus the title and registration.

Which state is your legal residency.......where do you have DLs/Vehicle Ins from?

That is where you should be registering your 5vr.

AZ DMV required a certified copy sent from the dealer directly to the DMV office that I said I would be registering it. This was last year. Maybe they've changed rules recently?

Our most recent was last year too. Wierd.

Thank you jmtandem. I haven't decided yet where I'll eventually move when I'm ready to go full time. I'll check other forums specific to FT and get their thoughts based on experience on RV friendly states.

There is a lot of good information on full time RVing on Escapees web pages including the domicile states that seem to cater to full time RVers that actually register in that state but are often absent from it for months at a time. If I recall South Dakota, Florida and Texas are among the better RV friendly full time states. Lately the national health insurance act might make some changes for full timers as to what states are better. There is also lots of good information on the Technomadia and also on Love Your RV web pages.

Know this from experience. And actually, the amount you are quoting is cheaper than AZ!

Nevada loves RV visitors. But for residents it is not an especially RV friendly state. No state income tax but it is made up in other taxes and fees. And if the fifth weighs more than 10,000 pounds gross weight to be legal you will need an endorsement on your drivers license. Very few RV full timers make Nevada their home state.
