Renting questions before buying

We used to own an RV rental business. The $750 is likely to cover the deductible for the insurance if you damage it. For RV rental companies there is really only one insurance carrier and not a lot of plans, hence why you see the same deposit amounts across various companies. Lots of fine print in RV rental contracts. Like - you can be held liable for the loss of revenue if you damage the unit until it's fixed, cleaning fees, LP fees, dump fees, etc so pay attention. Renting is a great and comparatively cheap way to learn if you like RV'ing, and if you can rent a unit that's close to what you want to buy then that's even better.

Mr Andy, your friend needs to trade in the wife. There does not seem to be much trade in value but cut the losses

I cannot stress this enough!

You know literally nothing.

Rent and sleep in it, travel in it, shower, make your doo, cook etc.
You will learn a lot about what you like and what you do not like. Everyone is different.

Don't be like those dummies on the tv show about RV buying, they all have opinions and I have never seen a valid opinion of a new RV buyer. Accept that you know nothing!

A friend did not take my advice. He thought he knew. He bought a new one, financed it and bought a truck on finance too, and now his wife does not like the sound the AC makes at night. She will not go camping now. HE bought it for her as he could have just tossed out a tent and made doo in a bucket.... Now he is stuck!

You’re stuck with a deposit. Sounds normal to me. Same with renting a car. Although like you, I’d b Leary of a private party rental deposit, as one could fabricate “issues” with which to keep some or all of the deposit even if it’s not warranted.
Little better assurance with a company renting.

Rent a TT....research while camping. It’s only a rental.

Unless you have reason to believe they are going to keep the deposit...seems fairly reasonable. Keep in mind a 21ft trailer is likely going to be worth $10-15k, so $750 isn't a lot and it's not hard to do that much damage.

Unless there is a big savings, I would lean toward a commercial operation. No guarantee but they would be less likely to be picky about minor wear and tear items.

If the deposit is the same across the board, I'd MUCH rather rent from a company than from an individual. You (should) have the peace of mind that if you're renting from a company, they're pro's at this, following state/federal regulations, being fully and properly insured, and being sure you, the renter, are not going to end up with any surprises.

The thing that concerns me about renting from an individual is whether or not his insurance company even knows he's in the rental 'business' -- and then what happens in the event of a mishap?

If it were me, I'd certainly rent from a company. Just my opinion.

Dont know who/where you checked, but RV share has a few in PA.
