Retire: give it all up at 58 and RV?

Hi all,

I am sure I am posting on something that has been posted a zillion times...

I am 58 single(divorced)with no obligations - and I am tired of the corporate world so thinking of selling it all and living in a small RV or a few years. I am looking for any guidance, or perhaps a reference to a community of similar people!

Thanks in advance for your kind responses.

  • I believe where there's a will.. there's a way. You have options full timing such as work camping that may help supplement your income should you find you need it. Other things to consider: Medical Insurance, vehicle and RV insurance, fuel costs and campground costs. How small of an RV? Travel trailer, fifth wheel, Class C or Class A? There are many single RVer clubs in FMCA and Good Sam that you could talk to some who full time. Just make sure you have the finances covered and have an exit plan.
  • First of all many people here (IMO) would retire if they could, and yes, many on here are young retirees.

Being retired is not that big of deal. Just replace work with doing whatever you want and you've got it. Each take the same amount of time. But one is more enjoyable than the other.

Start with Escapees web pages. Lots of great information there. Also look at Love Your RV, Technomadia, NuRvers, etc. All are doing what you are considering.

I think you know best what you want to do,IF you have money to travel then do it,it's that simple..just consider what would happen if you run out of money or got sick of living in small RV,then what?
  • I can't point you in the direction of a community, but I can assure you that there are many others like you out there.

A family friend (age 60) was widowed a few years ago. He and his wife had a Class B+ and enjoyed traveling in it while she was alive. When she died a couple of years ago, he retired and bought a new 3500 truck and a toy hauler. He has hit the road with his three dogs and is going to travel around the west and southwest doing nothing but living life, meeting people, and enjoying the country.

Best of luck to you in whatever you decide to do!
