Teachers not wanting to be near kids on their vacations? Just wait! My wife and I retired from teaching almost a year ago. Full-timing now. I truly enjoyed the profession, but my students were much more respectful towards me than most were to their parents. Something I see far too often in public places. We support 55+ where available. We always choose locations and parks, not to mention the timing of our visits, that minimize family occupancy. If parents only did their jobs as well as most teachers . . . We wouldn't be going out of our way to avoid them.
While we agree with your post I should also like to add that I'm a special education teacher and because of the things I see and hear I need to get away from adolescents and teenagers in order to recharge my internal batteries and get ready for the next opening day of school. The burnout rate for special education teachers is 3-5 years and I start my 20th year on August 19th. It will be my last. I figure 2 twenty year career jobs is enough and I intend to spend the rest of the time fishing and birding.
