RV sale negotiation

If you order an RV versus picking an RV already in inventory will there be any negotiation room on the price compared to the MSRP? I think I have found a good fit between what we want and a specific Jayco model, but there isn't one in stock within 300-500 miles of me. I'm leery of buying one out of state.
  • There are several so called wholesale RV dealers than do more customer order or sold order sales than order for lots and wait for a buyer. These dealers are also the ones that offer nearly the best pricing. So there is no reason to pay more for something that is sitting on a dealer lot already.

I personally would not pay more than 70% of MSRP for any RV. 30-40% off MSRP is the good range, assuming there are no trades to play numbers games. For Jayco, I highly recommend getting a quote from RV Direct. Whiel you may not be willing to purchase out of state or deliver from RV Direct, at least you will know what nearly the lowest price someone in the country is paying. You will have to formulate your own threshold for transportation/local convenience costs.
  • IF they are going to have it delivered from another dealer. You will need to agree on the price first. Of course you need to keep the refusal option on the table in case there is something wrong with it.
Just make sure you are happy with the price. Once it arrives. You will pay what you agreed on.
  • what price did the dealer give you for the in-stock unit? how about the price for the ordered one?
