I believe it's illegal in Mass and IMHO not necessarily the safest spot. At the very least the airbag MUST be shut off, if there is one. Also, I think due to the age of the other kids they'd have to be facing forward as well.
The O.P.'s in California...and even if that "no kids in front" rule exists in California I doubt it applies to RV's. Let's face it, the cockpit seats are the safest position in a Class C. Passenger protection stops where the "living space" begins.
I agree with the earlier poster that suggests a tug/tow combination. Then everyone would enjoy the protection of the designed-for-safety passenger area of a conventional vehicle.
But if you must travel in a "C"- put at least ONE of the kids there, O.P.!
