Sales Tax / Registration Question

Not sure I understand your situation, since you put home state in quotes. Are you becoming fulltimers with FL as your domicile state? Using a commercial mail forwarding service in FL?

Buying a house or land in FL? Living in the TT in FL but changing campgrounds/parks periodically?

We are becoming fulltimers and making Florida our domicile state. We will stay primarily in FL, but travel around when we want to. My in-laws, who live in FL in a sticks and bricks home, will receive our mail.

make your inlaws your primary residence for now. pay registration/titling/fees to FL.

If you were using a commercial mail forwarding service instead of your in-laws they would probably have the answer in their welcome package :)

If this is a dealer purchase then call them to start. Possibly it will be registered in IN. You also need to find out about insurance.

I just bought a rig in Indiana. I had to pay Indiana sales tax. Then when I titled it in Michigan, I had to pay what Michigan would charge minus what I paid in Indiana.

might go talk to your local dmv office ,and get the facts.

Pay/register it all at same time you get your drivers license in FL. You only have so many days to get a FL. license anyway. Lived in several states when on active duty and only payed sales tax once on a vehicle. Oh, and yes the vehicle was registered in several different states.

Bought our RV in California. Before we went to pick it up, I had 3 days to have it registered in Nevada. Nevada DMV told me within 3 days I had to register in Nevada. I purchased insurance prior from agent.
Went to DMV On Monday, retitled to Nevada and at that time paid Nevada sales tax.

Just keep your sales paperwork IF sales tax is included in sale. Adjustment + or - for the state you will register will be done at DMV.

I have heard that registration must match Drivers license, but never have seen it in writing. I know people that have dual residences and use both.
