Seasonal site but no way to tow

After years of renting campers my family is ready to buy our own trailer. The unusual thing is that we have no vehicle to tow a trailer, nor do we plan on buying one.

Our plan, which fits into exactly what our long term camping goals are, is to rent a seasonal site at one particular campground and leave the trailer there year after year. This campsite offers on site winter storage between seasons and I have found plenty of dealers that will deliver a purchased camper directly to our site.

Is anyone in a similar situation? Any pitfalls we could potentially run into not having immediate access to a tow vehicle?

  • I'm pretty sure that Ocean Lakes will store a TT for you during the off season and move it on and off a site for you. Maybe some of the others as well.
  • It was fun purchasing a new trailer last month without weight restrictions. We don't even own a truck. Our little puddle jumper car looks funny backed under the 5th wheel hitch. The dealer delivered ours to the site, but it will need to be moved twice a year back and forth to storage.

Like us, you probably know other camping folks who might be able to move your trailer for you when the time comes, for a return favor, small fee or couple of cases of beer. The dealer may charge you $150 bucks or so, but it's still cheaper than truck payments.
  • Most seasonal campgrounds have a truck that they can tow trailers from storage to the site when needed. Check with the campground.
  • around here. there are people that will tow campers (move) for money, check craigslist. just make sure they have insurance. and maybe check background.
  • If you're buying new, and have warranty issues, make sure your dealer either makes house calls, or is able to pick it up and tow it back to the dealer for repairs.
  • I lease side-by-side seasonal sites and have two campers I have never towed. Unless you do something to get kicked out OR the place sells, you won't have to deal with it. Buy from a local dealer who offers on-site service. My dealer actually comes to the campground to fix anything - he pulled another camper out and took it back to his shop to do a slide out rebuild and he delivered it back to the campground. No need to have a tow vehicle when you have a dealer like that!
