You can't just park it (hooked up to your vehicle) in front of your son's house? Assuming it is a neighborhood road, and not a main road. If he has a driveway, there isn't enough room to just pull into it? You are just talking about overnight or maybe two nights, the neighbors might not say anything.
But staying in a full hookup campground does sound best, as you can test everything out.
