single or dual axle trailer?

No one has mentioned the huge downside of dual axles, twice the cost of maintenance. There are many single axle trailers out there of all sorts and they seem to get around just fine.

As for the ability to "limp" to a safe area to change a flat, do you do that with your vehicle when you have a flat, whether towing or not??? No need to answer if you have a dually, though if one the front then please answer.

Dual axle will track straighter and will not be as bouncy as a single axle in the same size and weight.

Well - found exactly the opposite !! - I went from a dual to a single and find I can squeeze into spaces with the single easier than the dual.

Our first TT was a 17' Wilderness. The box was 14' with a 3' tongue. It had
the double axle and pulled down the road really nice. The whole rig weighed
about 3,000 lbs. I would get the double axel if you have a choice.

My first RV was a Fun Finder 19’. The year I bought it dual axles was an option. I had that added to the build. As Trackrig said, you can always limp to a place to change a tire.

Get two axles. If you get a flat you can limp it to an exit or a good place to change the tire vs a single axle that requires you to change the flat where you stopped.

Dual. Much easier when you flat and much safer when blow a tire.

Silly question. Weight is what determines the number of axles. If it's light weight, it will come with a single axle because no manufacturer is going to add the cost and reduces space from a 2nd axle if it's not needed.
