States / Regions with better used RV pricing.

Are there regions or states within US that tend have lower pricing on used RV's? Been looking around for the past couple weeks via rvtrader, craigslist, and Ebay, and wondering if any of you have noticed a pattern where do to the state or region used RV's tend to be cheaper?

I'm located in NC, and have no qualms purchasing an RV within 600 miles if it means that I'll save money.
  • The Midwest especially Indiana is where lots of RVs are made. It is the region of the country with lower prices.

Arizona in the spring or summer after the snow birds have left seems to have a lot of really good RVs for sale for cheap.
  • Thank you all for the input and sharing your previous experiences. After checking out some used RV's in the area, I now have a better understanding of what style, size, and layout I prefer. I may have found one that I'll pursue which is about 500 miles away, but the RV is being sold by a more traditional car dealership. Waiting to hear back to see if they were open to having a nearby RV Sales/Servicing center inspect the RV.
  • AZ in the summer. Drive down Main Street from downtown Mesa to Apache Junction. The lots are full of every type of rig imaginable. Few lookers, and even fewer buyers this time of year. Good time to snag a deal....if you find something you really like.....and, if you can stand the heat.:B
  • I would think that Indiana would have an abundance of used RVs. When we were looking for Safaris or Beavers, we found a lot in the PNW where they were built.
  • Here is my take on it, I spent about 5-6 months seriously shopping within a 1,500 mile radius and casually nation wide before buying last November. There does not really seem to be a lot of geographic variation in used motorhome prices, I can't comment on towables. However there does seem to be some regional seasonal variations, particularly in the northern states where sellers want to sell before winter conditions set in. While it is true that Florida and Arizona seem to have many motorhomes for sale a low prices, it also seems to be that those are the states that old motorhomes go to die. My guess is many retired people who tend to settle in FL and AZ get to the point in life where they should have given up RV ownership, then let them sit for a few years and run down, before selling.
  • Check out PPL motorhomes. It is a consignment site in Houston, TX. It may be a little out of your driving range, but you might find what you are looking for at a good price.
  • Find the brand you are looking for. Find where they are manufactured. Check that states dealers. Usually the closer to the manufacturer the better the deal. LESS SHIPPING COST. Thor Motor Coach is in Michigan. I got my best price by far from Chris at Richard Motor Sales in Reading Michigan.
