Stopping Overnight

A big part of RVing must be the freedom to park where you please when you please. I get it. But, being A truck driver, I am limited by law to a maximum 11 driving hours per day. And it's tough when I have got to get off the road and find an RV parked in a truck slot at a full truck stop. Folks, I honestly do want you to enjoy yourselves! But could you give us truck drivers a break?
Thanks,
JL

  • What Gets my Goat, ..............at TRUCK STOPS..With CLEARLY MARKED RV parking spots..I.E., Flying J,Pilot, etc..Motorhomes, Pulling F.R.O.G.s'....Will park across 5,6 or more CAR parking spots, while the RV Spots, near front, go Unused......HELLO...............

And in Defense, of LARGE RVs parking at truck stops, They Pay FUEL TAXES, so, they cant park on Private Property, just so you can ?????
  • I do not "overnight" at truck stops, WallMarts, or interstate rest areas. I overnight at KOA campgrounds, so I'm not among one of the offenders.

But reading your post makes me wonder, and the next time I'm at a truck stop, I'm going to look....

Is it posted anywhere that the parking spots are designated for big-rig trucks only? Are there any rules by the business establishment that RV's cannot park where the big-rigs park? Considering truck stops are privately owned (they are not government organizations are they), they each make their own rules and maintain their own parking lots at their own expense. So if they do not have any such rule about parking, I think the parking spot is fair game ... first come, first serve!

Now ... roadside (interstate) rest areas, ALWAYS are posed automobile parking one direction and Trucks with trailers/RV's in the other direction. So us RVers are not wrong for parking there.

What does get my goat, is when automobiles park at Cracker Barrel in the spots that ARE clearly marked RV only. So, I understand how you feel, not getting a spot, but if there's not rule a or guideline, sorry.... it's "first come, first serve!"

    Hi,

It is getting harder to find places to park. Too many folks have abused the privilege I guess. I am urbandocking for the summer and move from place to place every two days. I'm also working full time at my profession, so believe me when I say I find it exhausting some days.

And you don't think you're one of the abusers? You're not looking for a place to get some sleep before rolling down the road. If you're working fulltime in one location, why not just rent a monthly spot in a park? Monthly rates should be fairly cheap and you won't be exhausted every other day.

Where would you have the RV park at the truck stop? A 40 foot long rig cannot fit in a normal spot.
And not to P.O. you but what makes you more entitled to the spot than the person already there?
  • Hi,

Pray for hot weather--then intelligent folks will head for the nearest rv park to run their air conditioners.

Why the heck are RV's so hot in the summer (and cold in the winter???)

  • Sorry to burst your bubble but when we overnight at a truck stop the last place we want to park is where the trucks are parked. Wiser RVers will choose a spot away from the noise and pollution produced by commercial trucks, on the flip-side you can advice your fellow truckers to not use spaces meant for RVs at Walmart.
