Tall People

one of our daughters has a neighbor that her kids are best friends with. They have camped with us on occasion, but almost all of them have to duck in our trailer. Dad is 6'8", Mom is 6'4", 16year old son just hit 6'll", one of the middle school girls is already over 6' and the 11 year old girl is 5'8". Our 5'8" daughter is a midget compared to their family and wondering when the 11 year old will be taller than she is.

they like camping, but admit, most trailers don't cut it. Even tents are a problem.

It is not just bumping my head that makes me want more height. We are down sizing from a house with tall ceilings and I am a bit claustrophobic. You cannot down size my body.

I understand why the standard front sections are limited to about six and a half feet because of the front pin and the need for extra under storage for full timers plus the legal height of thirteen and a half feet.

But New Horizons has got around part of that by under ducting heat/cooling rather than top units thereby increasing interior height. I was hoping that maybe someone else cheaper was doing likewise.

I also have questions about where and how to have a legal address (sales and property taxes, etc.) but those questions are probably answered in the archives which I have not yet read. What if I establish in TX and buy RV in KS?? Do I pay sales tax?

I'm 6'7 also. Used to have a Jayco bumper pull that was tall enough inside. Have also had a Grand Junction 5th wheel that had plenty of room, even in the shower and bedroom. Tightest place in the rig was at the very front in the closet and that wasn't terrible. Now have an 05 Alfa See-Ya with 7 foot ceilings and I can wear a ball cap under the ceiling fan without problem. I'm not going to advocate any of them, they work for us, but may not for you. Go try the rigs, the shower tends to be the hardest for me to fit, so that's my litmus test.

Established parks? Why limit yourselves at the beginning of retirement? Lighter and easier comes more, IMO, at places other than established parks. Do not go gentle into...

I know exactly what you mean. My own little 4'10" lady cannot hear a word I say unless I stoop over.

I live in a 2005 Damon intruder 377W Class A... I have one spot (Entering master bath) where I have to duck. I run about six foot 2 at the moment six 3 when I bought it (you shrink as you age)

we have 8'+ clgs and 7' slide clgs in our big horn, bed room is just a bit under 6-4, you might have to get a haircut LOL

We are currently looking for our next rig and have pretty much seen every brand available in our area, haven't seen a fifth wheel that had ceiling lower than 7' with the exception of some of the smaller units where in the front bedroom near the front cap ceilings were 6.5' or so. Even most of the higher end travel trailers had high ceilings. Go to a RV show and get in as many large fifth wheels and you will find your next rig. We watch lots of videos on youtube as well, one of our favorite video salespeople is also 6'4" and have never seen him duck in several dozen videos that we have watched of the fifth wheels they sell.

Thank you for the feedback. I never listen to reviews that are slanted but enough on one subject tilts towards a pattern. We had not considered the Bighorn but will now.

The Keystone and DRV complaints seem to suggest that selling out to a bigger company like Thor lowers quality the first couple years as they adjust build methods and cut costs.
