Soon after taking delivery on our Mother Ship, I had occasion to replace the aerators in the faucets, as they were clogged and restrictive. Couldn't find the type that can be disassembled and cleaned...

There is a difference.
White- single density, should only be used on NPT threads up to 3/8 inch in diameter.
Yellow – double density, often labeled as “gas tape”
Red of Pink – triple density, required on all joints 1/2? or larger.
Green – oil Free PTFE tape, required for use on all lines carrying oxygen (i.e. – medical oxygen or welding oxygen lines).
Maybe the oxygen folks where I get my two bottles filled and tested don't know this. They both have white tape on the threads. Oh well it seems to work fine.
